Kolkata, West Bengal, India, May 26: Travel plans for hundreds of passengers ground to a halt as cyclone Remal prompted a 21-hour halt to all flight operations at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.

Indigo, Air India, AirAsia, and Biman Airlines are among the carriers significantly impacted as Cyclone Remal triggers unprecedented disruptions. The severe weather event has led to the suspension of operations, unleashing travel chaos for thousands of passengers. Both Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have faced closures, affecting a vast network of flights and leaving many travelers stranded without immediate alternatives.

Travelers voiced frustration over the lack of communication from airlines, reporting no advance notifications regarding flight cancellations via email or phone. In response to the disruptions, several passengers have requested compensation for hotel accommodations and meals from the airlines.

The Airport Authority of Kolkata reported the suspension of 394 flights, encompassing both international and domestic routes. The schedule shows that 170 domestic flights were set to depart and 26 international flights were expected to arrive between Sunday noon and Monday morning. Major international flights, including Emirates from Dubai and Thai Airways, as well as carriers such as Air India, Indigo, AirAsia, Vistara, SpiceJet, Air India Express, Druk Airlines, Etihad Airways, Bhutan Airlines, Bangladesh Biman Airlines, US Bangla Airlines and more all faced cancellations or delays due to the severe weather conditions.
