Kings Dominion, central Virginia’s beloved amusement park, is excited to unveil Rapterra, a new addition for the park’s 50th anniversary season in 2025. This incredible attraction stands at 145 feet tall and stretches 3,086 feet long, making it the world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster. Rapterra promises an unforgettable experience with thrilling heights, speed, and exhilarating maneuvers for all park-goers.
Rapterra, inspired by the formidable Jungle Hawk, provides riders with an exhilarating experience of flight. The adventure starts with a powerful launch, catapulting passengers to 65 miles per hour in just four seconds before climbing to its peak above the Jungle X-Pedition midway. The ride then dives into a loop and navigates a series of thrilling aerial maneuvers, including an S-turn, a wing slide, a flat spin, an airtime hill, and a 360-degree raptor roll. Lasting 89 seconds, the ride features three inversions before smoothly returning to the station.

Crafted by industry leader Bolliger and Mabillard, the Rapterra wing coaster offers a unique experience with riders seated on either side of the track, providing an immersive, floorless sensation that mimics the feeling of flight. The coaster’s design features basalt grey support columns and a patina green track, creating loops, twists, and rolls that promise an exhilarating adventure from start to finish.
The construction of Rapterra is currently underway, with an expected completion this fall. The coaster is set to officially open in 2025, in celebration of Kings Dominion’s 50th anniversary. More details about the anniversary celebration will be announced at a later date.
Additionally, Kings Dominion has launched the 2025 Gold Season Pass today. Guests who purchase this pass will enjoy unlimited visits and free parking for the rest of the 2024 season and throughout 2025.
