United Airlines Makes Travel Effortless with New Advanced Accessibility Options

[[{“value”:”Reading Time: 2 minutes

United Airlines stands as the largest airline globally by available seat miles, offering more transatlantic and transpacific flights than any other U.S. carrier. United for Business is our dedicated service designed to support companies worldwide with all their business travel requirements.

Enhancing Accessibility for All Travelers

1. Braille on Board

In 2023, we became the first U.S. airline to introduce Braille signage in our planes, making navigation easier for visually impaired travelers. By 2026, our entire mainline fleet will feature Braille markings on rows, seat numbers, and lavatories.

2. Neurodivergent Traveler Support

Our agents are trained to assist travelers with varying needs, ensuring a comfortable journey. Notify us during booking about any disabilities, and we will prepare to offer support at the airport and during your flight. Utilize our social story guide or join a rehearsal flight with Wings for Autism® to familiarize yourself with the travel process.

3. Wheelchair Services

We offer comprehensive wheelchair services for every stage of your journey. Request a wheelchair in advance through My Trips or online. We provide manual chairs for airport navigation, aisle wheelchairs for boarding, and in-flight wheelchairs for lavatory access on larger planes. Contact our Accessibility Desk for assistance.

4. Accessible Seating

Accessible seating with movable armrests is available for easier access. Check your plane’s seating layout in the My Trips section on our website or app to select a suitable seat. Seatbelt extenders are also available upon request.

5. Digital Features

Our in-flight entertainment system includes accessibility features like text-to-speech, magnified text, high-contrast colors, audio descriptions, and closed captions. The United app is designed for optimal accessibility, ensuring accurate voiceover functionality.

6. Wheelchair Travel Planning

You can bring your own wheelchair if it fits the flight specifications. Use the wheelchair filter on our website or app to find suitable flights. If a more expensive flight is needed to accommodate your chair, we offer refunds for the price difference, provided both flights are nonstop and have the same origin and destination. Wheelchair check-in is free, including manual and electric wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, canes, and crutches.

At United, we continually strive to make air travel more inclusive. Accessible travel is our priority, and we are committed to innovating and improving to ensure a seamless journey for all travelers, regardless of their abilities.
