IHG Hotels & Resorts Enhances Responsible Business Plan with Powerful Action Against Hunger Partnership

IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global leader in the hospitality industry, proudly announces a multi-year partnership with the international NGO, Action Against Hunger, to address food insecurity and hunger worldwide.

Currently, one in three people globally face uncertainty about their next meal due to poverty, conflict, inefficient food systems, and climate change. Through its extensive network of hotels in over 100 countries, IHG has long been dedicated to improving food security, aiding disaster relief efforts, and providing skills training. These initiatives are part of IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow responsible business plan, which aims to positively impact the lives of 30 million people.

For decades, Action Against Hunger has been at the forefront of preventing, detecting, and treating hunger with its acclaimed screen, treat, and sustain program, reaching East Africa, Central Africa, West Continents: Africa, Asia, North and South America, the Middle East, and Europe. IHG’s support will enhance and fund Action Against Hunger’s nutrition programs, particularly focusing on screening initiatives to detect early signs of malnutrition in children and provide lifesaving treatment through local community outreach.

Additionally, IHG will raise awareness of this critical issue among its millions of guests worldwide, offering them the chance to donate IHG One Rewards points to the cause. For instance, a donation of 10,000 points can screen approximately 124 children for malnutrition, a crucial step towards necessary care. On average, 7,500 points can provide a malnourished child with nutritious food for six weeks, helping them return to health.

Elie Maalouf, CEO, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said “Food sits at the heart of our hotels and hospitality, nourishing people and communities, and yet sadly we know it remains in desperately short supply for millions of people, despite enough being produced to feed everyone on the planet.
This is a problem the world can solve if societies, organisations and businesses work together. IHG Hotels & Resorts is proud to partner with Action Against Hunger on their life saving work, in addition to the many other long-standing partnerships we have with incredible charities in local markets. Collectively we want to help create lasting change in a world where people are nourished, always welcome, and always respected.”

Ashwini Kakkar, Chair, Action Against Hunger International Network, said, “While hunger is a widespread challenge, for the first time in human history, we have the ability to end chronic hunger for everyone, for good. Realising that vision will take bold action and we are grateful for IHG’s will, wisdom and leadership in advancing this vital cause. Hunger makes it harder for hundreds of millions of people around the world to learn, work, dream and realise their full potential. IHG’s generous support will help advance our work to create a world where every life is well nourished.”

Aligned with IHG’s mission to deliver True Hospitality for Good, this initiative will enhance the current collaborations IHG and its hotels have established in numerous local markets. These efforts collectively aim to fortify the community’s food system by offering training and tools to minimize food waste and redirect surplus food to those in need. Notable existing partnerships dedicated to food security for IHG include local food banks, No Kid Hungry in the US, OzHarvest in Australia, and Too Good To Go in Europe.
