Chef JJ Johnson leads FIELDTRIP, recognized as one of the few fast-casual restaurants featured in Esquire’s “America’s Best New Restaurants (2020).” A James Beard Foundation Award winner, Chef JJ is celebrated for his pioneering Caribbean-inspired cuisine. He has received nine James Beard Foundation nominations and accolades such as Forbes 30 Under 30, Eater’s New Guard of Power Dining, and Nation’s Restaurant News Power List.
Originating in Harlem and now thriving with three locations in New York City, FIELDTRIP embodies sustainable dining. It champions ethical practices by using sustainable ingredients to craft diverse, flavorful dishes centered around rice. The menu showcases global flavors, highlighting heirloom grains and locally sourced seafood. Each rice bowl is meticulously paired with robust vegetables and proteins.
Notable offerings include Fried Chicken with Carolina Gold Fried Rice, Wok Veggies, Sticky BBQ Sauce, and Scallions; Braised Beef with Slow-Cooked Angus Beef, Texas Brown Rice, Chipotle Black Beans, and Jalapeno; Crispy Fish featuring Cornmeal-Crusted Cod, Herbed Rice, Tartar Sauce, and Pickled Red Onions; and Chickpea Curry with Eggplant, Texas Brown Rice, and Scallions.
