ExCeL London announces new appointments amid record growth, gearing up for a busy 2024 with major events and a £300 million expansion underway.

ExCeL London has announced the appointments of Diana Frederiksen, Declan Cassidy, and Kornelia Kaczynska to its Conference & Events team, responding to increasing client demand. With a collective 35 years of MICE industry experience, Diana joins as Head of Business Development, Declan as Head of Sales Development, and Kornelia as Account Executive. These new hires will strengthen ExCeL’s commercial team and business development, particularly focusing on the venue’s upcoming 25,000 sqm expansion, set to make it the largest fully integrated conference centre in Europe.

Diana began her career at Stockholmsmässan Congress & Exhibition Centre and has worked with notable brands like the Hilton London Metropole, where she also led the hotel’s ESG committee. As a founding member of ICCA’s Future Leaders Council, Diana will concentrate on long-term, large-scale, city-wide conferences and events.

Declan, with experience at brands such as PPHE Hotel Group, the Strand Palace Hotel, and the Kia Oval, previously led the sales team at etc. venues for nearly 15 years. He will review ExCeL’s commercial offerings, develop inclusive packages for the CentrEd meeting hub, and the new Maritime Suite.

Kornelia, who has years of experience at etc.venues and the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, will support the C&E team, particularly with inbound inquiries.

James Rees, ExCeL’s Executive Director and President of JMIC, added: “2024 is undoubtedly a milestone year for ExCeL, with more than £300 million being invested in our venue, infrastructure and, subsequently, London’s event industry. This is due to increasing demand from event organisers across the UK, Europe, and North America, so much so that 65% of 2025 space in our new expansion has already been booked.

“As such, we’re also investing in our people, so we’re delighted to be welcoming Diana, Declan and Kornelia who will further strengthen our existing team, helping to provide the very best experience to our clients.”

Hosting approximately 400 events annually and attracting four million visitors, including one million from overseas, ExCeL experienced its busiest year ever in 2023, a trend that is continuing into 2024. Notable upcoming events include the European Society of Cardiology (August 30 – September 2), Elevate24 (September 11-12), PCR London Valves (November 24-26), Hyrox London (November 29 – December 1), along with numerous major corporate events.
