[[{“value”:”Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI) has praised the Maharashtra government for its innovative Tourism Policy 2024. This policy, with an annual budget allocation of INR 1,666 crore for incentives and operational support, demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to advancing the tourism and hospitality sectors. The industry is particularly enthusiastic about the infrastructure enhancements, which include expedited project clearances, increased floor space index (FSI), and eased building restrictions. Moreover, the policy introduces various financial incentives such as capital subsidies, SGST reimbursement, electricity duty exemptions, and interest subventions on loans, which have been long-sought by the hospitality industry. HRAWI also emphasized that this policy harmonizes with the national tourism strategy by fostering better coordination between state and central authorities.

The government’s dedication to enhancing tourism infrastructure is evident through an annual financial provision of INR 1,666 crore designated for incentives and operational aid. This policy emphasizes eco-tourism and cultural conservation, encouraging initiatives in these fields and fostering the resurgence of native arts, traditions, and cuisine.

The policy aspires to position Maharashtra as a leading global tourist hotspot by attracting new private investments estimated at around INR 1,00,000 crore and generating approximately 18 lakh direct and indirect jobs through the private sector, with the goal of doubling the state’s tourist influx. It highlights key elements such as niche tourism segments including eco-tourism, rural tourism, and agro-tourism, alongside promoting cruise tourism and improving MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities.

The association has praised the initiative aimed at ensuring visitor safety and convenience by providing essential infrastructure such as Wi-Fi access, CCTV surveillance, and a 24/7 tourist police helpline. This policy also introduces awards for Best Tourism Village, Best Homestay, and Agro-Tourism Units at different levels. Cruise and river tourism will see significant enhancements with the construction of jetties at multiple locations, including Veldur, Kashid, Arnala Fort, Janjira Fort, Padmadurg, Suvarnadurg, Underi, and Durgadi. Additionally, the policy promotes river tourism on perennial rivers like the Godavari, Narmada, Vashisti, Savitri, Krishna, and Tapi.
