Kansai Airports Kobe Teams Up with Kobe City and Partners to Fuel Sustainability with Used Cooking Oil

Kansai Airports Kobe is delighted to announce a new partnership with Kobe City (Mayor Kizo Hisamoto), JGC Holdings Corporation (Representative Director, Chairman and CEO Masayuki Sato), REVO International Inc. (President & CEO Tetsuya Koshikawa), and NPO Blue Earth Project (Representative Satoshi Taniguchi). This agreement focuses on promoting the collection of used cooking oil in Kobe City to support a sustainable society. The collected oil will be used as raw material for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The Kansai Airports Group remains committed to reducing environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable society.

1. The cooperation includes:

Collection of used household cooking oil.

Production of SAF and other biomass fuels from used cooking oil.

Providing opportunities to widely disseminate information about the project.

Addressing other necessary matters as part of this agreement.

2. Responsibilities of Each Stakeholder

Kansai Airports was established by a consortium led by VINCI Airports and ORIX Corporation. On April 1, 2016, Kansai Airports assumed the operations of Kansai International Airport (KIX) and Osaka International Airport (ITAMI) from New Kansai International Airport Company (NKIAC). Kansai Airports Kobe, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kansai Airports, took over the operations of Kobe Airport (KOBE) from Kobe City and began its business operations on April 1, 2018.

Under the “One Kansai Airports Group” concept, the Kansai Airports group is dedicated to continuously enhancing its services for all airport guests through strategic investments and efficient operations, prioritizing safety and security. The group aims to maximize the potential of the three airports for the benefit of the communities they serve.
