Oita Airport emerges as Asia’s focal point for the Dream Chaser space plane, powered by a dynamic new partnership poised to transform aerospace ambitions.

Sierra Space Corporation, Japan Airlines Co., Ltd., Kanematsu Corporation, and Oita Prefecture are excited to announce that MUFG Bank, Ltd. and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. have joined their partnership to explore the potential of the Dream Chaser® space plane.

This collaboration has been considering various possibilities made feasible by a horizontal spaceport, including the landing of the space plane at Oita Airport, tackling legal and regulatory challenges, and developing an economic zone around the spaceport. The ultimate objective is to establish Oita Airport as the Asian hub for Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser space plane.

With MUFG Bank, Ltd. and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. now part of the partnership, the combined efforts aim to expedite the realization of Oita Airport as a horizontal spaceport. This collaboration is poised to expand Japan’s space-related industry and foster the creation of new industrial and business opportunities through space utilization.
