Aruba Airport Announces Interim Management to Ensure Stability and Growth

0

[[{“value”:”Reading Time: 2 minutes

Aruba Airport Authority, the operator of Aruba Airport, is pleased to announce the appointment of an Interim Management Team to navigate the company through a crucial strategic alignment phase. Effective August 1, 2024, this initiative underscores AAA’s and Royal Schiphol Group’s (RSG) commitment to maintaining operational stability while pursuing long-term growth.

Instead of appointing a single interim CEO, AAA has strategically chosen a trio of leaders to ensure balanced and effective governance during this transition. This decision aligns with AAA’s collaboration agreement with RSG, which provides the CEO for AAA under the mandate of Aruba’s government, AAA’s sole shareholder. With the current CEO’s tenure ending on July 31, 2024, and ongoing negotiations for a new strategic agreement, the Interim Management Team approach was deemed essential for leveraging diverse expertise during this period.

The Interim Management Team includes:

Aisha Anthony, Chief Financial Officer: With over 15 years of experience in financial strategy at AAA.

Jurgen Benschop, Chief Operations Officer: Bringing more than 26 years of expertise in airport operations at AAA.

Barbara Brown, Chief Revenue Development & Communications Officer: With over 27 years of experience in commercial airport management at AAA.

Together, these seasoned professionals will ensure continuity and stability while driving key initiatives forward.

The search for a new CEO is being conducted with meticulous care to find the ideal candidate to lead AAA into the future. Both RSG and AAA’s Supervisory Board of Directors (BOSD) are dedicated to this rigorous process. While no specific timeline can be provided for the appointment, all parties are committed to completing this selection as swiftly as possible.

During this transitional period, the Interim Management Team, in collaboration with the BOSD and its shareholder, will focus on several key priorities, including continuous communication, the upcoming DCAA Audit Certification, budget planning, contract implementation for Phase 1B of the Gateway 2030 project, strategic evaluation and assessment, performance monitoring, and daily operations.

Fraud ring steals credit card info with fake online shops advertised on Facebook

0

Researchers have uncovered a network of fraudulent websites posing as online stores in a far-reaching fraud operation aimed at stealing user’s payment information.

Primarily impersonating genuine existing ecommerce sites, adverts posted on Facebook boasted high discounts and time-sensitive deals in order to entice customers into entering their card details. Not only was money taken from user’s accounts, but their details were then sold on dark web marketplaces, which often lead to long-term credit card fraud.

The fraud campaign was dubbed ‘ERIAKOS’, after the content delivery network (CDN) provider used, and over 600 fake web shops were discovered by Recorded Future, which found roughly 100 ads linked to each site.

Evading detection

In order to avoid being spotted, the fake sites were only accessible on mobile devices or through the Facebook ad links – which included false endorsements in the comments to appear legitimate.

“Brand impersonation is an enduring tactic for scams and phishing websites because it is effective. For this reason, the operators of this campaign will likely continue to model their scam websites after the brands they are currently imitating in order to attract potential victims as quickly as possible”, Record Future said in its report.

Although Facebook’s anti-fraud algorithm detected and deleted some of the ads, the high volume of content and sites involved made it a difficult task. The websites were designed to be short lived, so as one site was deleted, another was generated in its place. Many are now offline, but it is unclear just how many similar scam sites exist.

Related domains and merchants accounts linked to the scam are registered in China, which suggests this is primarily where the threat actor operates. Reports indicated ‘ERIAKOS’ mostly impersonated two popular brands: a large ecommerce platform, and a power tools manufacturer.

Scam websites don’t just affect the victims, but can have knock on effects for impersonated businesses, who can suffer reputational damage. Financial institutions also face risk through irrecoverable losses and chargeback disputes.

Game server hosting provider Shockbyte partners with one of the largest survival games in the industry

0

Shockbyte has been offering Minecraft server hosting since 2013, and while that’s still what the company is best known for, it also offers hosting for other major online games, such as ARK: Survival Evolved, Team Fortress 2, 7 Days to Die, and Rust.

Developed by Facepunch Studios, Rust is a popular survival game where players gather resources, build shelters, and survive in a harsh, open-world environment filled with threats from both wildlife and other players. It is consistently ranked as the 12th most played game on Steam and has a daily player count exceeding 100,000.

Shockbyte has entered into a partnership with Facepunch Studios to offer exclusive in-game content for Rust players. When gamers purchase their first Shockbyte server through the in-game button, they will receive a unique Rust server skin for the Tool Cupboard, transforming it into a cool 1980s server rack, complete with flickering dials, lights, and a telephone.

Shockbyte Tool Cupboard

To qualify for this exclusive skin, which is only the second-ever skin for this item in the game, players need to purchase a Shockbyte server for at least one month via the in-game button. As you might expect, refunding the server will result in losing the skin.

Rust has consistently maintained a top 15 position among the most played games on Steam, underscoring the game’s popularity. The exclusive in-game skin, called the “Shockbyte Tool Cupboard,” is designed to encourage more players to take the plunge and offer their own game servers. We’ve rounded up the most popular game server hosting providers and it probably won’t come as a great surprise to anyone that Shockbyte comes in as our number one.

The Australian player-owned firm offers server hosting in North America, Europe (UK, France, Germany, and Poland), Singapore, and Australia, and if you have an existing server, you can easily swap providers to take advantage of the new skin. Pricing for Rust server hosting starts at $9.99 a month.

Currently, the Shockbyte Tool Cupboard is only on Rust’s testing branch, but it will be made more widely available soon.

Remember Skype? Well now it’s ad-free again, which will be a refreshing change for Windows 11 users

0

Remember Skype? Well, it’s still around, and while the likes of Google Meet and Microsoft Teams might hog the communications spotlight now, Microsoft is still working on Skype – and is hoping to make it more popular by killing the ads in the app and adding (you guessed it) AI features.

In the recently published release notes for Skype Insider build 8.125, Microsoft outlined the big changes in this new preview version. The major development, as mentioned, is that the adverts are being dumped, and that means all of them, with Microsoft proclaiming that “Skype is now ad-free!”

In short, Skype users will no longer see ads in Skype Channels and across the rest of the Skype platform, making for a much-improved user experience, or that should be the case (not that I’ve used Skype in quite some time). Remember, though, that this move is still in testing – so there’s no guarantee it will come to fruition.

As well as banishing the adverts, Microsoft has brought in an improved AI image creator in the Skype desktop apps, enabling users to generate images directly in their chat window, or from the top bar of the interface. Additionally, users can now expand these AI-generated images with just a click.

Alongside these bigger changes, Microsoft has integrated OneAuth into Skype for iOS, giving users an option to make signing in easier. This enables users to replace classic sign-in systems with OneAuth and be signed into Skype automatically if they’re already signed into another Microsoft app – pretty handy.

The preview build also includes the usual bug fixes and improvements to app stability.

A new and improved Skype for the modern age

While I don’t know why Microsoft thinks everyone has suddenly developed a hunger for AI image generators in every corner of Windows 11 and its apps, but I guess the changes on that front don’t hurt. However, when it comes to giving ads the axe – now we’re talking. It’s great to see Windows 11 lose some adverts for a change, rather than having more of them jammed in – even if these are ads in an app you don’t use much (or at all).

Skype does have an active user base in the hundreds of millions, though, and it appears Microsoft is keen to make it more popular with the casting aside of adverts.

If this development has piqued your interest and you want to see the ad-free Skype, you’ll need to download the latest Skype Insider build – or wait for all these features and changes to come to the release version of the app (which hopefully won’t take too long).
