Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council Marks a Decade of Transforming Tourism and Hospitality at Grand New Delhi Event

On a remarkable day at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) celebrated ten years of impactful contributions to the tourism and hospitality sectors with the event themed “A Decade of Excellence, Empowerment, and Employment”. The ceremony not only recounted the council’s commendable past achievements but also unfolded its vision for the future.

The festivities commenced at 10:30 AM with guest registrations followed by a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, the singing of the national anthem, and a vibrant cultural performance. The event was attended by a host of dignitaries including industry magnates, government officials, and influential stakeholders, highlighting the council’s significant role in the industry.

Ms. Jyoti Mayal, the Chairperson of THSC, set a welcoming and ambitious tone for the day. In her opening address, she underscored the council’s ongoing commitment to skill development and job creation in the sectors. This was elaborated upon by THSC’s CEO, Mr. Rajan Bahadur, who provided a thorough recount of the council’s journey, spotlighting major initiatives and milestones that have notably shaped the industry’s landscape.

A pivotal announcement made during the event was the “Empowering 100 Dreams” initiative, which aims to skill women in the industry, reflecting THSC’s dedication to gender inclusivity and societal betterment. This was complemented by the unveiling of “Aarohan July 2024”, the council’s biannual newsletter that captures extensive updates and plans, proving indispensable for stakeholders keeping abreast with the council’s activities.

The event featured enriching talks from industry veterans. Noteworthy among them were:

Mr. K B Kachru, Chairman Emeritus & Principal Advisor at Radisson Hotels Group – South Asia, who emphasized the necessity of continuous skill upgrading to meet international hospitality standards.

Mr. Rattan Keshwani, former Chairperson of THSC, who reflected on the evolution of the council and its strategic impact on the industry.

Mr. Suhas Deshmukh, Director of NCVET, and Mr. Rishikesh Patankar, Vice-President of Government Programs at NSDC, both of whom spoke about the essential role of vocational education and public-private partnerships in advancing skill development.

The day also celebrated the successes of the PMKVY 4.0 Street Food Vendors International Placement program participants, who shared inspiring stories of how the initiative profoundly affected their professional lives. Mr. Sanjay Bose, Executive Vice President & Head of Human Resources at ITC Hotel Division, further discussed the importance of national apprenticeships.

A special virtual address was given by Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, IAS, Secretary, MSDE, GoI, who praised THSC’s efforts in enhancing employability and encouraged ongoing innovation. The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (I/C) Shri Jayant Chaudhary, MSDE, GoI, also virtually lauded THSC for its significant role in national development through skill enhancement.

The event concluded with an award ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions by training partners, industry associates, and assessment bodies, followed by a high tea networking session that provided a perfect setting for future collaborations.

The 10th-anniversary celebration not only highlighted THSC’s past achievements but also set a progressive agenda for empowering individuals and advancing the tourism and hospitality sectors in India, ensuring a future as promising as its celebrated past.
